In 1996 King Carl XVI Gustaf made Royal Djurgården a public park, until then it had been a mostly private royal retreat, including homes of different members of the royal family. One of these homes was Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde, on the southern point of the island. With this combination ticket you can visit this former royal residence and go sightseeing throughout Stockholm with our hop on hop off bus.
Prince Eugen built his mansion with its gallery and surrounding gardens between 1903 and 1913. Throughout his life he was both an art collector and a painter himself, most of his collection consisted of Swedish contemporary art. When he died in 1947, he donated his home and collection to the Swedish state who made it all into a museum.
The art collection is now on show in the gallery of Waldemarsudde. In the mansion, visitors can explore the reception rooms, dining room, library and more, as well as the grounds around the estate. On the grounds there are several sculptures from prominent artists on display, such as The Thinker by Rodin, and multiple pieces by Carl Milles.
Our hop on hop off bus has a stop just 15 minutes walking from Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde. Of course there are many more sights to be found throughout the city, that you can easily reach with our sightseeing bus. The bus will also take you to Gamla Stan, Södermalm, Norrmalm, Vasastan and Östermalm.
Along the way, you can hop off and back on the bus at any of the many stops to explore Stockholm at your own pace. On the bus you will have free access to Wi-Fi and you can listen to an audio guide to learn more about the city. With our RED Sightseeing app, you will always be able to find the stops and see where the buses are.
